Archuleta County High School
The Education Center, in 1998, signed an agreement with Archuleta School District 50
to establish an alternative high school program for the District to serve those students
that might be more successful in a less traditional learning environment. In 2001, the
Colorado Department of Education recognized Archuleta County High School as the
alternative high school campus for this District. It continues to serve this student
population and is located at The Education Center, 398 Lewis Street. The program has
served as many as 81 students in a given school year.
After-School Tutoring, Enrichment and Constructive Activities
Program – Elementary and Intermediate Schools
The Education Center offers After-School programming Monday through Friday for the
Elementary and Intermediate schools. Programming includes tutoring services at the
elementary level provide in a unique model that utilized student tutor/mentors from
Pagosa High School who are supervised by certified teachers. Students are
recommended to the program by their classroom teachers who provide the mentor/tutor
with tutoring instructions specific to an individual students needs. Additionally,
enrichment and constructive activities are provided as part of the after-school program
and are integrated into the students tutoring schedule.
The intermediate school provides for enrichment and constructive activity and tutorial
services on a Monday and Wednesday after school schedule.
Vilas School District – VilasOnline
Since the 2008 school year, The Education Center has contracted with Vilas School
District’s to provide tutorial services to Archuleta County students enrolled in
VilasOnline School. VilasOnline is a K-12 school accredited by the Colorado
