Online GED instruction is also offered at The Education Center. Classes are scheduled Monday through Thursday from 2-7 pm. GED testing is scheduled periodically throughout the program year. Students will have an opportunity to supplement their GED instruction with the WIN Career Solutions curriculum and qualify for the ACT WorkKeys assessment that validates competency for national and state career ready certifications. Who can enroll? Individuals who do not have a high school diploma can enroll and earn a GED diploma. The program is for individuals 16 and older, but individuals must be at least 17 years old to take a GED test. How do I sign up for the GED program? Individuals should make an appointment at The Education Center to complete the enrollment forms and learner orientation before beginning classes. How will my classes be determined? Before beginning classes, the learner will meet with the Student Services Director and/or GED instructor to discuss previous education experiences, personal interests, and preferred methods of study/learning. Learners will work in small class size groups, one-on-one with an instructor, and/or via web-based online instruction. How much does the GED program cost? The only cost to the learner is for the final GED tests (Math, Reading, Writing, Social Studies, Science). There are 5 GED tests and each test costs $30 for a total of $150. There is limited scholarship money available to cover some or all testing expenses. Can I go to college with a GED? Yes, more than 95% of colleges accept the GED. Most all colleges require an entrance exam in addition to the GED or traditional high school diploma. These exams (ACT, SAT, or ACCUPLACER) are used to assist the college in properly placing a student in its curriculum thus maximizing the learner’s potential for success. ABE Classes Adult Basic Education provides assistance to learners needing improvement in basic skills such as math, writing, and reading. These classes are scheduled simultaneously with the GED classes. Enrollment is the same as for the GED. ESL/ESOL Classes ESL/ESOL is funded under the same Colorado Department of Education Adult and Family Literacy grant. If an individual’s native language is not English and English proficiency is your goal, The Education Center offers classes that will assist the learner Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5 - 7 pm. Multiple nationalities are enrolled in these classes which are directed by a licensed teacher and supported by RossettaStone Language Learning Solution software. Group family events are scheduled to introduce the learner to the variety of cultures represented in the group. Additionally, field trips may be scheduled to introduce the learner to the cultural infrastructure of American government, health, entertainment, national parks, etc. English as a Second Language (ESL) in English English as a Second Language (ESL) in Spanish
