The mission of the Archuleta County Education Center is "To foster responsible citizenship through programs of literacy, education, vocation and life skills that meet the needs in our community."  This mission is based on the belief that learning is beneficial and valuable to everyone throughout life and that individuals living in small communities should not be deprived of continuing educational opportunities.  Our staff and board are committed to "creating lifelong learners."

The Archuleta County Education Center provides a variety of services for youth and other community members.

One of our important programs is adult literacy and basic skills.

Another important program area is positive youth development.  We operate "after-hours" academic and enrichment youth programs for children in grades K-8.

Enrichment classes in the arts, languages, and math and science are offered on an ongoing basis.   Teens are hired to tutor children in the elementary, intermediate and junior high schools.

Students in our after-school programs often have better academic performance, behavior and school attendance and greater expectations for the future.

Throughout the year, we also provide a number of classes for adults such as first aid and CPR training, computer software and applications, foreign language, fly fishing and more.

We also provide many rewarding opportunities for volunteers to make a real difference in the community.  Please contact our staff to see how you can participate.

Call the Archuleta County Education Center at (970) 264-2835.
