The Archuleta County High School (ACHS) first opened
in 1997. From small beginnings, it has grown into a complete
full service high school. ACHS individualizes student programs
to match student needs. Flexibility is the key that opens
opportunities for students. The high school offers day classes
that lead to a diploma, work-study combinations, evening classes,
independent study, and GED preparation. ACHS focuses on the
social as well as the academic development of each student.
Service Learning is an integral part of the overall program.
Students are required to perform volunteer work; specific
community-based actions that allow self-esteem and moral character
to develop. Some students volunteer on a weekly basis at local
child care facilities. The student body also participates in
the EPYCS program. This program allows students to learn about
local non-profits as well as grant over seven thousand dollars per
year to the non-profits of their choice.
The low student-staff ratio at ACHS allows
individualized attention for students. We have four
teachers, and a counselor. Our goal is to help every
student complete either their high school diploma or GED
program.
